【Memo of lecture】

  • There are three phases to understand current biology. Firstly, to understand human body. Secondary, to use medicine as device which requires to see human body deemed as mechanical aspect. Thirdly, to insert technology into human's biological eco-system.
  • Genome editing and epi bone are the example of third phase.
  • Human being has 206 born and also has joint over 360 points. These joints are rubbing a few million times in the year and it will be several billion times during life.
  • Currently, people are using metal and medicine when we broke born, but why don't you use epi-bone.
  • In order to make epi-bone, general process are follows.
    • To recognize the shape of break-bone by CT scan
    • To get cell near the bone.
    • Incubate the cell and make epi-bone.
    • Put the epi-bone into body.
  • This merit is to make shape and these cells comes from own cell. Additionally, these cells are living actually.

【What is Tissue engineering】

  • Tissue engineering is that to utilize principle of life science and engineering as biological substitute of human function.
  • This technology is using for regenerating medicine of skin, born and organ etc.
  • Basic process is to pick cell, culture it, and plant it for body.
  • Basic method of 3D tissue engineering is stem cells/Scaffold —> Bio reactor —> Differentiated tissue

【What is Bio mimetics】

  • Biomimetics is to utilize biological function and shape for other engineering and medical usage.
  • For example, cocklebur feature was used for velcro tape. And Shinkansen’s shape was came from kingfisher’s beak.
