1.What is the purpose of “Daisy Quorum” gene drive?

  • There are two purpose of daisy quorum.
  • One is to conduct an experiment locally.
  • Another is to allow natural selection (vote) system during this experiment. And if needed, it should be return to the situation before starting this experiment.

Memo :

  • We discussed about difference between Daisy Chain and Daisy Quorum. Our answer is below formula.
  • Daisy Quorum = Daisy Chain + Natural Selection System.

2.What is your immediate emotional response after reading the preprint?

  • There was no emotional response like as comfortable and uncomfortable.

  • However, I had some observations about below points.

    1).Pre-registration

  • This is very good system for science. This is because this system exposed the information in open source, then getting feedback and sharing knowledges. This system ultimate target is "TO IMPORVE THE SIENCE TECHNOLOGY".

  • Meanwhile, the reason why conventional academic authority try to keep a secret is "TO GET FAME AND TO GET MONEY" more or less.

  • I don't deny to get fame and money because I am business man and have desire to get it. However, considering the big vision of Science, open mind and such open system is very important.

2).To do an experiment in real environment.

  • I am positive but it is subject to necessity.

  • If this daisy quorum will be held just as experimental purpose of technology or curiosity, I don't agree to do so.

  • However, if it has clear necessity like as "To prevent pandemic" and "Endangered species protection", I fully agreed to do this experiment because it is good for human and good for nature.

  • So my opinion is it should be consider risk and return from the view point of one creature on the earth as human.

3.Describe a scenario, real or fictional (real-world is preferred), where you would deploy a technology such as “Daisy Quorum”.

  • We discussed about some ideas like as "To make strong race horse", "To build beautiful and good smell cockroach", "To fluorescent roadside tree", "To make artificial Bee and/or Ant who can store big honey".

  • Considering daisy quorum limitation factors which are Local, fast life cycle, and natural selection system, "To make artificial Bee and/or Ant who can store big honey" was the best idea.

4.What would you be concerned about if a neighboring country, or city, decided to deploy “Daisy Quorum” technology?

  • I am a business man. Therefore the worst scenario which I am concerning is one industry disappear due to this Daisy Quorum technology.

  • For example, some pest stop to eating a harvest due to editing their DNA and change the energy source for their life, every farmer do not need to concern pests who make damage for their crop. However, people who are involved in this industries will be loose their job although it might be defined as destructive innovation.

5.Is the name “Daisy Quorum” intuitive to you? If you were to name the technology, what would you name it? Note: we may actually adopt your name in the final publication!

  • It was tough discussion. We decided that "TANACA" is the best name to expand this concept. Detail meaning is as follows.

T : Targeted A : Area specific NA : NAtural Selection based C : Controllable A : Assey

  • Although we did not intend anything about some persons name, after gathering the essence of daisy quorum, it was accidentally same sounds with my name "TANAKA".

Lab task Assignment

With regards to Lab task, we could not hold experiment due to wet ware availability and should be updated once we proceed it..
